Möhnesee

Sauerland-Seen / Möhnesee

A "Westfalen Sea" nestles in the landscape in the northern Sauerland. Of course, the Möhnesee is filled with clear fresh water, but as it is the reservoir with the largest surface area in the region, its nickname deliberately leaves a little more room for imagination. Its natural wealth makes the Möhnesee a destination of longing for anyone seeking energy and balance in the great outdoors. There are hiking trails to discover here, leading to a sound forest or the towering Möhnesee Tower, for example. The popular Sauerland-Waldroute long-distance hiking trail skirts the southern shore of the lake. Guests can also explore the area on cycle paths and enjoy a few culinary surprises during their break. The LIZ Landscape Information Center is dedicated to environmental education, bringing people closer to nature and its phenomena with imaginative hands-on activities. A guided tour over and even inside the imposing, historic dam wall appeals to those interested in history and architecture. A walk through the modern, extensive lakeside park in the Körbecke district really does give you a maritime feeling. The skate park and the play and exercise areas range from sporty to spectacular. The Möhnesee is also known for events that get many people moving, such as the Lake Run or the Möhnesee Triathlon. Of course, it also offers relaxed water fun, in the lidos, on a sailing trip or a trip on a passenger boat. Further information can be found on the Möhnesee's own homepage.
